The younger the employee, the greater the stress over work-life balance. This finding is shared in the Employee Happiness Index 2019, which is based on a study of over 19,000 employees across various industries and generations. Behind the research is HR tech company, Benify.
As many as 17.6% of Generation Z employees, those born from 1995 onwards, state they are "very stressed" about work-life balance. The corresponding figure for baby boomers, the oldest generation in the survey, is 11.5%. Even with regards to personal finances, stress is most significant amongst younger generations. Only when discussing the pension are older employees more stressed than younger employees.
However, employees who state they receive support from their employer for work-life balance are significantly less stressed. In this group, the share of "very stressed" employees is just 5.9% compared to 25.5% in the group that says they don’t receive support.
“This finding shows that employers have an incredible opportunity to help reduce stress and better the health of their employees,” says Viktor Håkansson, Head of Benefits at Benify.

Approximately 19,100 participants from 61 organisations took part in the 2019 edition of Benify’s benefits survey, Benify Score. HR managers and employees were asked to answer a series of questions about benefits, engagement and communication. All responses were anonymous.
